Mihirangi

“…infectious joy oozes from her very being, and captured our hearts… one of the most exciting, original and conscious solo performers of Australasia. This woman has got so much raw talent and enthusiasm it is an honour to watch her perform”. Concert Review – Victoria State Museum Australia.

Mihirangi is a musical master of the art of live looping. One of the worlds first international touring female loop artists, Mihirangi has inspired audiences across the globe. From concerts in the Arctic to a music clip for Sea Shepherd in the Antarctic, she’s also performed in most countries in between. After touring internationally for many years, in 2012 she introduced the country to live looping on NZGT becoming a household name.

Weaving live loops of vocals, intricate harmonies, guitar, tāonga puoro, keyboards, world percussion, beat-boxing, drum machines & vocal bass. Singing in Te Reo Māori and English, an Artist Activist and Māori representative for the Global Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardian’s, Mihirangi’s music will have you committed to dancing, laughing, crying and singing along “I’m a World Citizen”. Never taking herself too seriously, her naturalness, infectious laughter and authenticity is engaging.

An artist-activist and proud of her roots (Ngāti Rākei, Ngāti Waikorara & Ngāti Pākeha), raised in Kapa Haka, having had a touring musical life, and with a love of sharing her talents in her celebrated workshops Mihirangi has performed for fellow artist-activists Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Sly and Robbie, Arrested Development, Tom Thum, John Butler, Michael Franti, Lee Scratch Perry, Public Enemy and Alice Cooper. A former Sea Shepherd Director & crew member, Greenpeace and WSPA activist, Mihirangi is currently Aotearoa’s Ambassador for the Global Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardians.

‘The world is full of musical prodigies, but Mihirangi’s got them all beat: Between her appetite for musical adventure, her Māori roots, and her political convictions, she’s the perfect model of a 21st-century shaman and star” The Georgia Straight – Vancouver
